Organising Your Inbox with Labels

Labels let you tag emails with colour-coded categories so you can sort and find them instantly.

Creating a label

  1. Go to Labels in the left sidebar.
  2. Click + New label.
  3. Enter a name (e.g. Work, Receipts, Personal, Urgent).
  4. Pick a colour.
  5. Click Create.

Applying a label to an email

  • From the message view: open the email and click the label icon (🏷️) in the toolbar. Select one or more labels.
  • From the inbox list: long-press (mobile) or right-click (desktop) the email and choose Label as.

An email can have multiple labels.

Filtering by label

Click any label in the sidebar to see only emails with that label applied. This works across all folders.

Removing a label

Open the email and click the label chip → Remove label. This removes the tag but keeps the email in its original folder.

Deleting a label

Go to Labels → ··· → Delete. This deletes the label and removes it from all emails it was applied to. The emails themselves are not deleted.

Tips

  • Use labels instead of folders for cross-folder categorisation
  • Combine labels — e.g. Client + Urgent on the same email
  • Use consistent colour coding: red = urgent, green = done, blue = reference
