Auto-Reply / Out of Office
Set an automatic reply so anyone who emails you gets an instant acknowledgement while you're away.
Setting up an auto-reply
- Go to Settings → Auto-reply.
- Toggle Enable auto-reply on.
- Enter your message (e.g. "I'm away until 20 Jan. I'll reply when I return.").
- Optionally set a start date and end date — the auto-reply will only fire within that window.
- Click Save.
Auto-reply options
| Option | Description |
|---|---|
| Subject | Custom subject line (default: Re: <original subject>) |
| Message | The body of the auto-reply |
| Start date | When the auto-reply begins (leave blank = immediately) |
| End date | When it stops (leave blank = until manually disabled) |
| Reply to each sender once | Don't reply to the same person more than once per 7 days |
The "reply once per sender" option is enabled by default to avoid spam loops.
Tips
- Mention your expected return date.
- Include an emergency contact if applicable.
- Don't include sensitive information — auto-replies go to anyone who emails you.
- Auto-replies are not sent in response to mailing lists or bulk mail to prevent loops.
